TaylorMade Irons Overview

From tour pros to the highest handicappers, there’s something for every golfer in the lineup of TaylorMade irons. Just ask Tiger Woods, Dustin Johnson and Rory McIroy – all major champions and all TaylorMade iron players – or any of the millions of recreational golfers who use the company’s game-improvement models.

TaylorMade’s offerings run the full gamut of iron designs and are available in men’s and women’s versions. For better golfers, there’s the TaylorMade P790 irons and P7TW (Tiger’s choice), among others. Less skilled players, who need a little help when they miss the sweet spot, appreciate the TaylorMade SIM iron sets.

Here’s a quick rundown of current TaylorMade irons, which you’ll find here at GlobalGolf.

TaylorMade SIM Irons (2020)

TaylorMade touts its SIM Max and SIM Max OS irons for their explosive distance, but with feel and sound that mimic forged irons. TM’s ECHO Damping System gets the credit for these clubs’ pleasing impact sensation, while the added yardage comes from the Speed Bridge spanning the cavity and a face that’s 17% thinner than the previous generation.

TaylorMade P790 and P790 TI Irons (2018 – 2020)

These beauties are TaylorMade’s entry in the “player’s irons” category, aimed at lower handicappers (and those who aspire to be). Unlike the forged blades of old, TaylorMade P790 iron models feature a hollow center injected with foam. This moves weight to the club’s perimeter for a higher MOI (moment of inertia) and greater forgiveness without sacrificing feel. TaylorMade’s engineers also lowered the center of gravity by installing a small slab of tungsten near the club’s sole.

TaylorMade M5 and M6 Irons (2019)

TaylorMade saved the best for last with the final irons in its vaunted “M” series. Both the M5 and M6 irons boast ultra-thin clubfaces and Inverted Cone Technology, which produce massive ball speed on both center strikes and miss-hits. In the sound-and-feel department, TaylorMade outfitted both sets with HYBRAR compression dampeners. Result: reduced vibration, better impact feel.

TaylorMade M3 and M4 Irons (2018)

TaylorMade threw all its technology into the M3 and M4 irons. That means an extremely thin face and RIBCOR construction, which combine to deliver exceptional distance and accuracy. Added benefits include increased launch angles and carry heights thanks to a super-low center of gravity, and terrific feel from a more rigid clubhead.

TaylorMade M1 and M2 Irons (2017)

The first of their generation, TaylorMade M1 and M2 irons remain top performers. Innovative design features like an enhanced Speed Pocket and an L-shaped toe section have a lot to do with that. So do the extra-low center of gravity, which allowed TaylorMade to strengthen the lofts for more distance while keeping launch angles and trajectory very high.
