For years – decades, even – Mizuno golf clubs have been defined by its irons. The beautiful and well-crafted irons have been in the bags of some of the best players in the world and weekend warriors alike, who have all trusted the quality craftsmanship.

But while Mizuno irons are still some of the best in the game, Mizuno fairway woods and drivers are starting to make noise too. While they have a lot to live up to in terms of Mizuno irons, the ST-X and ST-Z line of Mizuno fairway woods and drivers are worth a look in 2021 as well.

The Mizuno ST-X is a carbon composite driver with super tech-forward face. The forged SAT2041 Beta Ti face helps deliver consistent performance and high ball speed, while the multi-thickness CORTECH face on the Mizuno driver helps to optimize the return from the Beta Ti face. The ST-X has a compact profile and a draw-biased construction thanks to an expanded toe and heel sole weight. The Mizuno ST-X boasts a wave sole plate to help with ball speed – especially on shots hit lower on the face – and has four loft-degree variations for a fine-tuned look and trajectory.

The Mizuno ST-Z driver, meanwhile, boasts many of the same tech features as the ST-X driver, but is designed for golfers looking for straight and spin-efficient ball flight. The balanced toe/heel carbon composite construction in the ST-Z, as compared to the ST-X, helps to improve speed on low-face strikes. The design is on the Z Axis and has a sole weight in the centre of the club to help with the low, straight spin of this Mizuno driver.

With the Mizuno ST-Z fairway wood, Mizuno has a throwback profile thanks to the MAS1C face, which Mizuno calls its most powerful to date. Both the 3-wood and 5-wood have an adjustable hosel – up to four degrees of loft and face angle variation – and building off the tech shared with other Mizuno golf clubs, including the driver, the STZ fairway wood has both low-spin performance and stability. The CORTECH face is Mizuno’s thinnest and hottest fairway face and it has WAVE technology that has been re-engineered to lower the centre of gravity and enhance the MOI.

The new ST-X and ST-Z drivers from Mizuno are in their third generations for 2021 and the SAT 2041 beta titanium face is in its second generation – it was made thinner in specific areas for this year’s model. The new face boasts a Tour-quality, and improved, sound and while the ST-Z is built for stability and the ST-X is draw-biased both are improved for 2021. The ST-Z is the only new fairway wood offering from Mizuno for this year, while an ST-X fairway is expected for next year.

So while Mizuno will continue to be one of the game’s finest makers of irons, its metal woods offerings – especially in 2021 – are game-changing, too.
