  • Pro Tip: Improve Your Putting With These Golf Ball Designs

Pro Tip Improve Your putting with these golf ball designs

When it comes to rolling the rock and trying to shoot lower scores, putting is all personal. Feel, stroke, grip, putter design – there are a ton of options and there’s no real ‘right’ way, as every golfer is just hoping to get the ball in the hole in as few strokes as possible on the green.

But two of golf’s biggest ball manufacturers have recently redesigned their flagship golf-ball lines in order to help golfers do just that. You’ll have noticed that both Titleist golf balls and Callaway golf balls are featuring prominent alignment aids and the Callaway Chrome Soft and Titleist Pro V1 are both new for 2021.

Callaway’s claim is that its Triple Track Technology (which relies on Vernier Hyper Acuity, which is a similar technology used in landing strips in aircraft carriers and on gun sights) helps golfers improve their alignment on the greens by upwards of 88 percent.

Callaway golf balls that feature Triple Track Technology include it’s new Chrome Soft. Phil Mickelson was the first PGA Tour pro Callaway showed the technology to, and he won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in his second start with the ball featuring the new alignment lines.

Callaway’s Global Golf Ball Director, Jason Finley, told PGATOUR.com that alignment is the most important thing that most golfers on the PGA Tour are working on. So when it comes to how regular golfers can make more putts, concentrating on alignment is key. So why not use a golf ball with some of the best alignment technology already built in?

“If you walk out to the putting green at any competitive event, you see every tool under the sun […] and it’s always players focusing on alignment,” said Finley. “So really, what this is, is another way to add to that trend among better players in general.”

But it’s not just the best players in the world who could benefit from a golf ball like the Callaway Chrome Soft and its new alignment aids.

“Players are finding out they’re not only able to aim better, but they’re able to aim more consistently,” said Finley.

The Titleist Pro V1, meanwhile, is arguably the most iconic golf ball in the game today. The team at Titleist installed an enhanced alignment sidestamp to help golfers improve their aim and accuracy.

The new Titleist Pro V1 has even more control, softer feel, and longer distance than the previous generation and the new alignment stamp is part of the Titleist golf ball’s total performance, aimed to have golfers shoot lower scores.

The Titleist golf ball known the world over also boasts a new dimple pattern – tweaked for the first time in a decade – to help golfers’ with their ball flights.

The enhanced alignment in the Titleist Pro V1 is a subtle, but important change. Two straight lines border the Pro V1 stamp, which helps golfers as they line up putts.

So, when it comes to alignment – and help on the greens – some of the biggest brands in golf are adding some small lines to their golf balls that could have big-time results on the putting green for you.
