Pro Tip: The Cobra DARKSPEED Family – Out of This World Speed

The new Cobra Darkspeed drivers deliver all kinds of great technology to help produce the company’s most innovative big stick yet.

The family of woods, hybrids, and irons are chalk full of new innovations including speed-boosting aerodynamic shaping, an advanced AI-designed PWRSHELL H.O.T. Face and a re-engineered PWR-BRIDGE to help golfers hit it further and straighter.

“I had high expectations, and I wasn't going to switch out of something unless it was at least as good, or better, or potentially better in the long run,” says Rickie Fowler, who plays the Cobra Darkspeed LS and previously gamed the company’s Aerojet LS Driver. “So some of the initial characteristics, definitely a lot different look as far as one's matte, one's gloss. Darkspeed is just super clean.

“And then on the kind of tech side, I would say it’s lower spinning.," he continued. "I'm up a degree in loft – loft is your friend when you can still keep spin down, so I feel like I have a bit more control with the Darkspeed versus the Aerojet, but can still maintain the same speed, and so ultimately if I go down to where my loft was with an Aerojet, it would be a little bit faster, but still being able to keep the same speed, but have more loft and the same spin characteristics, that’s just giving me more control.”

Fowler’s blessing is just one key success story that’s come from the new Cobra drivers. The DARKSPEED family is a special release from Cobra for 2024.

Here's everything you need to know about the new Cobra drivers, Cobra fairway woods, Cobra irons, and Cobra Hybrids for 2024.

    Drivers

There are three versions of the Cobra DARKSPEED driver, the LS, the X, and the MAX. There’s also a version available for women. Each of the DARKSPEED drivers feature a unique aero shaping and tailored weight configuration to optimize performance.

The DARKSPEED LS is aimed at the fastest swingers who need lower spin and more shot-shaping control (there’s also an LS 8-degree model, an evolution of the long-drive prototype head used by Long Drive Champion Kyle Berkshire). The DARKSPEED X model is aimed at the widest variety of players looking for a combination of forgiveness and exceptional ball speed. The DARKSPEED X is aimed at players who need the most forgiveness and/or draw bias and has the highest MOI of the three models.

“The aerodynamic package in the new DARKSPEED family of drivers is our most advanced to date,” said Mike Yagley, the vice president of innovation at Cobra.

The adjustable weighting system of the DARKSPEED drivers allows for golfers to tune their driver to adjust launch angle, spin, and forgiveness. LS has three weight ports, the X has a back weight and second front-weight position, and the MAX model has ports in the rear and heel of the sole.

Cobra’s A.I.-designed PWR-BRIDGE weighting means faster ball speed and a 13 percent larger PWRSHELL face insert (with A.I.-designed H.O.T. Face Technology maximizes speed across the hitting area. Machine learning helped to increase ball speed efficiency and smash factor.

    Fairway Woods

Complementing the Cobra DARKSPEED drivers is a full lineup of fairway metals – the LS, X, and MAX. Like the Cobra DARKSPEED drivers, the fairway metals boast PWR-BRIDGE weighting, PWRSHELL with H.O.T. Face, and carbon fibre crown technologies.

The DARKSPEED LS Fairway is designed for players with faster swing speeds and features space-grade titanium in the body and the PWRSHELL H.O.T. face plus an adjustable weighting system. The DARKSPEED X, meanwhile, is designed for players looking for a balance of forgiveness, distance, and easy launch. The DARKSPEED Max is the most forgiving fairway metal in the lineup and designed for players that desire a high, draw-biased ball flight.

    Hybrids

The DARKSPEED hybrids round out the metalwood offerings and also feature PWRSHELL H.O.T. Face technology and PWR-BRIDGE weighting for added launch, speed, and forgiveness. There are five versions of the DARKSPEED hybrid (2-6) plus three (3-5) of the DARKSPEED ONE Length hybrid.

    Irons

The new Cobra DARKSPEED irons provide the ultimate combination of distance, speed, and feel thanks to all-new hollow body construction with feel-enhancing foam, plus re-engineered PWR-BRIDGE and PWRSHELL technologies.

These Cobra irons are the company’s longest and best feeling game improvement iron to date.

Available in both traditional and ONE Length, the new Cobra Darkspeed irons take cues from the metalwood designs with a more responsive clubhead structure to unlock 25 percent more face flection for faster ball speeds and longer distance.

“This is truly one of the best feeling irons we have ever created,” said Tom Olsavsky, the vice president of club research and development for Cobra.
