Pro Tip: The Latest Wedge Releases from Cleveland

Pro Tip: Cleveland Wedges

Founded more than 40 years ago by Roger Cleveland, Cleveland Golf has long been at the forefront of wedge technology.

Cleveland wedges have become synonymous with balanced feel, spin, and performance to help you hit the ball closer with your scoring clubs.

The latest Cleveland wedges are another in a long line of wedges that will help Canadian golfers to pitch shots onto the green from anywhere, zip a spinny approach to just a few feet, or blast out of a bunker for a tight par-saving effort.

And while there are plenty of great wedge releases this year like the TaylorMade MG3 (featuring precision milling to and Raw Face technology to enhance spin) or the Titleist Vokey SM9 (with a new Spin Milled process for its grooves, meaning sharper and more consistent spin), Cleveland has once again shown why it’s an industry leader.

There are three new Cleveland wedges for 2022 and if you’ve been struggling from 100-yards-and-in and are looking for a new addition to the bag before the Canadian summer golf season ends, here’s a breakdown of each new model.

Cleveland has essentially broken it all down and built it all back up again when it comes to the new RTX ZipCore wedge. Available in three finishes, this ZipCore wedge sees heavy steel replaced by a lightweight core to help reposition mass. The centre of gravity is moved – which means more shots will land on the sweet spot – and there’s plenty of new High-Low MOI that was not in any previous Cleveland wedge. There’s more consistency in the RTX ZipCore, plus new UltiZip grooves. Cleveland says the grooves are their sharpest and deepest yet, plus there are two extra grooves per wedge face for more contact on every shot. The extra grooves are said to add more spin and consistency while the three versatile sole grinds help you to execute on any greenside effort.

As you can likely surmise from the name of this new Cleveland wedge, the CBX Full-Face has an extended toe portion to increase its hitting surface plus grooves that take up the whole face. The entire face features Rotex milling, laser milling, and Tour zip grooves. It’s an advanced face, in terms of technological advancement, and it just got bigger (and better!) The benefit of the full face of grooves and higher toe helps golfers to slide the face under the golf ball, which makes any kind of toe strike more forgiving. There’s a wide sole and blade profile which helps to take the fear out of the flop.

Built to help golfers hit fewer poor shots, the CBX ZipCore Cleveland wedge does just that by lofting more shots from the sweet spot. There’s a new vibration-dampening material that’s been added to the wedge’s core to help increase the MOI and moving the centre of gravity to exactly where you strike the ball. The CBX ZipCore boasts a hollow chamber near the heel and a custom TPU Gelback insert to help with forgiveness. There are three grinds available, and the same UltiZip grooves like in the RTX ZipCore models. There is a ton of extra tech in this Cleveland wedge, but it still features a compact shape that hides all that help under the hood.
