Pro Tip: Highlights of the 2023 PGA Show

Pro Tip: Highlights from the 2023 PGA Show

After a few years of uncertainty, the PGA Merchandise Show made its buzzy return in 2023, and the miles of aisles at the Orange County Convention Centre in Orlando featured plenty of great gear from the biggest brands in golf, and this year, perhaps more than ever, a lot of excitement from attendees who may not have seen each other in person since 2020.

The show floor was packed with the usual hustle and bustle, and while there were plenty of great new products this year (including a Canadian invention, the Pik’r, which is set to revolutionize the way driving ranges are cleared with its autonomous robot picking solution) some of the big highlights came from the usual suspects.

With the show now in the rear-view mirror, Canadians who can’t wait until spring to get in their springs are probably more excited than ever for golf season to start inching closer and closer for the majority of the country.

With that, here are a foursome of highlights from the PGA Show floor from the biggest brands in the game.

    Callaway

Callaway is continuing to be the industry leader in Artificial Intelligence and again for 2023, it’s got a new A.I.-designed Jailbreak system in the Paradym line of drivers. It’s built to enhance stability for faster ball speeds, and the new face – also designed with the help of A.I., enhances speed, launch and spin.

What you’ll get in the Paradym drivers is what Callaway is calling a “complete shift” in performance. There’s an industry-first 360-degree Carbon Chassis (titanium is totally eliminated from the body of the driver) which helps to maximize distance.

    Cobra

Cobra has launched a new line of metalwoods and irons under its AEROJET line. The clubs feature ‘Advanced Aerodynamic Shaping’ which helps to deliver faster clubhead and ball speed. Golfers also benefit from a brand-new PWR-BRIDGE weighting system plus a PWRSHELL face that helps to deliver a larger sweet spot. Multiple models of AEROJET are available across the lineup for all kinds of players.

    PING

The new line of G430 metalwoods and irons from Ping are designed to help golfers increase distance, speed, and forgiveness thanks to some new engineering innovations. Three driver models (LST, MAX, SFT) are built for every type of golfer and boast plenty of great new technologies to help increase ball speed – and improve sound.

The irons have a new PurFlex badge on the cavity which helped with distance gains of between 7 to 10 yards as compared to previous Ping efforts, plus improved accuracy throughout the set. It’s the longest Ping iron ever thanks to an engineered package that helps deliver up to 2 more miles per hour of ball speed.

    Titleist

The No.1 ball in golf somehow, someway got better in 2023. The Pro V1/Pro V1x now boast high-gradient cores for more distance, tighter dispersion, and lower long-game spin. The core is constructed with progressive firmness levels which is set to help golfers with every kind of shot from tee to green.

Titleist’s new driver line, the TSR, is already being put into the bags of some of the best players in the world and winning at an impressive clip. Interestingly enough, the face material is something that is being used by just three companies – NASA, the U.S. government, and Titleist itself.

There are four models in the line that boast impressive stability, speed, and distance gains – all building off the TSi and TS series before it.
